Hi there. I'm having a problem in my '92 Bonneville SSEi Supercharged. One of the options installed when I purchased the car, was the automatic headlights. [Meaning they turn on when it'* dark, and turn off when it'* bright...] Recently these have not worked. Even when it is pitch-black outside, the car will not automatically turn on the headlights. Now, it'* no inconvienance for me to do myslef, it'* just nice not to have to. I'm wondering if it may be related to another problem I have been having. The 'Lamp Monitor' light will turn on for no reason about every third day; Even in the middle of the day when my lights are off. The first several times it did it, I checked, but everything was working flawlessly. So I'm prettly lost now, and with my job, and the prices of dealership repairs, I thought I would come to you. Thanks for any help you can provide.

The headlamp/twilight sentinel switch has prolly gone bad, You're haveing the exact same issue that I have had in the past with my car.

Well, the actual headlight switch seems to be working fine. Aren't the two ***** connected? Beacuse then if one worked, wouldn't the other? Thanks for the quick response.

ok .... the lamp monitor will show you if a particular light is burnt out, so if you see it, chances are you have a light out somewhere on the car...it really doensnt effect the twillight in any way
as for the twillight just to be sure you actually have the twillight activated there is the round **** that activates the headlights and then there is * switch behind that that controlls the twillight.... all the way to the bottom, it will click and that means off, all the way up means max setting

it is also possible that the HL switch has gone bad, several members have experinced this

Ambient light sensor may be faulty? This is what determines on/off state of exterior lights with respect to ambient light conditions.

Thanks for all of the responses. As far as the 'Lamp Monitor' warning light, I have searched high and low, and found nothing. I know that it can be something small, but I haven't been able to find it just yet. I will test the headlights tomorrow. Thanks again.

Jeff, the lamp monitor should show a small yellow icon for the lamp that'* out. Check your rear window brake light and all the individual little tail lamps (in the dark), and especially both license plate lights. But the DIC should tell you basically at least what circuit the intermittent lamp is on if you look at the display.

When the ambient light sensors fail, your headlights will be typically on at all times. Make sure in your case that the sensor is properly connected.

Yeah, once before when my left tail-lamp went out, the 'Lamp Monitor' showed me exactly which one it was. This time, only the warning comes-up; No light to indicate which it may be. I'll check the license-plate light though, I haven't checked that just yet.

Could anyone tell me how to check to see if the sensor is hooked-up correctly? I am very in the dark when it comes to things like this. (Pun not intended...) Thanks for all your help.

According to another thread, it just pops in (maybe twists). Don't have access to my FSM right now to figure out how to test it.
