93 SSEi Intermittent DIC and c200 connector
Hello everyone,
This is a great forum. I’ve read some of the repair posts regarding things I have learned from my 93SSEi (actually step daughters now) and you folks know your stuff!
I have one more repair to do for her that I’m pretty sure it involves the C200 connection. The DIC is indicating all kinds of info (open doors, trunk ajar…) that’* wrong and goes on and off like a Christmas tree (and don’t forget the nice chime). Occasionally it will display proper info. Road bumps will usually trigger it. Took off dash cluster and examined all circuit boards but I think I’m leaning toward that C200 connector.
My question is just what kind of connector is this C200. Are we talking about factory butt fittings or reseatable connectors? And is there any shortcuts to getting to it (I have a 92 shop manual). I’m going to look at the car again in the next few days when it warms up a bit.
Thanks again.
Stebo

This should fix you right up. Many of us have had these problems and used this procedure to fix it:

I'll move this to the electrical section for better visibility.

Thanks for moving this to the right forum section. I had found and read that techinfo before posting. Great for people without the manual and better written than the manual too. I was still hoping for some insight about that C200 connector but looking at the manual DIC 8A-81-4 for 92 yr page and those block diagram schematics again I think it may be on the circuit board regarding the “IGN” path which keeps the inputs high unless grounded deliberately by the various sensors. If the trace or supply for that was interrupted than the input would float and would give the indication of a grounded sensor. It’* the only way that multiple inputs at the same time could come up. Very unlucky that multiple connection at C200 are getting grounded somehow. I looked the board over under magnification but will do it one more time. If only a real schematic :( The coating they put on there is quite thick and makes probing hard as you all know. After this many times in and out I think I’m ready for a “take the cluster out time race”

Yeah, C200 isn't that bad. it'* like an expanded version of the ICM connector. Big black plastic thing. You can get the wire ends out too so it should be pretty easy to clean. Center of the car under the dash near the floor board.

Here we go.
Lower RH of pic, hanging:
Directly below the blue hand:
C200 can be seen here. simply remove the center bolt and slide it towards the front of the car. If I had to bet I'd say it'* a 7mm bolt.

Wow great pics. That’* one hell of a big connector. I figured with all the references in the shop manual (SM) it was pretty substantial. I don’t think that gets loose to often with a bolt holding it together.
If I can believe the SM (I would show the block diagram page pic but I think that’* frowned on – copyrights) though it seems even if my pins at C200 where totally loose from the body chassis wiring I would still not see this kind of behavior as they (GM) used the old trick of making ground the trouble path i.e. even if the C200 connector in question was open you would not be annoyed by sensor trips but would receive no indication ever. Kinda a fail safe. Same at the C1 connector. Does this make sense? Unless the cluster power that is specific to that circuit section goes through there. Like C1-A1 or C1-B1. Could be. I’m going to look at that circuit board again real close.
Again thanks to everyone and once the outside temps get a little more reasonable I will take it out.

I did the fix posted by Wilwren last night on my Bonneville, it'* had the classic blinking lights and constant ping ping ping from the driver information system. When I put it back together I had no compass display or drivers information display? I took it apartseveral times and checked connections, everything looks good, circuit boards don't appear to have any burnt or broken conductors on them. Any suggestions, could it be this c200 connection, or a bad ground? Sorry for the hi-jack, but it appears my issues could be related to your topic.
