Default Intermittent Blower & other problems - Updated!

Hopefully someone will have a suggestion for this nagging problem.

My HVAC blower works somewhat intermittently and it runs faster while turning left :? , yep, you read that right (or left?)...the fan runs faster while turning left and somewhat slower while turning right.

Tonight the blower wasn't working at all so when I got home I got changed to brave the -10*C weather and hopefully solve this problem. I get out a few tools along with some printed material to help the diagnosis...the bloody thing decides it going to work now . Whenever I'm actually in a position to check this thing it works, when I'm wearing a suit it doesn't.

Also, I have an itermittent problem with some dash lights that may or may not be related. Sometimes the Traction Control/ABS and Air Bag light comes on. Both front Hub/Bearing assemblys have been changed recently. Last night while driving on the highway and hitting a pothole, these lights all came on, next time I started the car they weren't on.

I'm thinking I have a ground problem somewhere. I've checked the fuses in under the driver'* side dash and in the Maxi-Fuse Relay Centre and everything is fine, I haven't looked behind the passenger kick pad yet.

Anybody able to take a stab at this problem? Any tips would be most appreciated.

When it quits, go out and tap on the blower fan. The other thing to try is test for 12V+ at the blower fan (with the ECC on high fan) when it quits.

It'* being difficult about that. It wasn't working when I came. Had supper etc, disconnect the power wire and chacked for 12V with the key in run - yep that worked so I turned off the key and hooked up the fan and it worked.

Were you thinking it might be a brush or something in the fan motor?

Could be a few things - bad bearing in the fan motor - bad blower control module. Depends on the diagnostic.

I'll try again as soon as I can get at it while it'* not working. I have the GM diagnostic table to run through and I've looked at some of the wiring diagrams. Funny that the fan speeds up while turning left :?

That left turn would tend to suggest a bad bearing in the fan. The G'* of the turn are affecting it.

Ayup. Pull the blower motor and either replace it or blast the existing one clean using carb cleaner or similar through its cooling vents wherever you can reach with the nozzle, then a drop or two of oil on the bearings, and put it back in.

As for the warning lights going on over a bump, you'll see both of those light up in response to a failed wheel sensor, so look for a damaged or loose one on your front wheels. (For that matter, you might as well check out the rear ones as well...)

I'll take your suggestion on the blower and try that tonight. Sounds like a plausible scenario, I was wondering if it could have been a wire moving too, but the blower motor seems more likely.

Whoa, it doesn't take many fractions of a G to make it happen. I did check while the car is not moving, the wheel has no effect.
