So I may have found a link to the security light I was having.

Here is the cluster when I fired the car up today:



Yep, pretty bad, I turn it off, all the lights stay on even when I close the door and lock the car. come back 15 minutes later, lights are still on.

So I put it into gear:



Same problem. Lets reboot the car again.



Same problem...keys are shown in the pic.

I keep trying and on the 10th try this happens:




Lets turn the car off, wait a while..well this time the lights went out. ...I took the dash apart and reseat the cluster.



Finally I give up and swap a known good cluster.



So is there a way to swap out parts of the cluster or is it one big circuit board? I'm willing to mix and match to get the old one working so the miles are fair.

Thats the craziest thing i've ever seen. and here i was ranting a few days ago about how insane the electrical systems are in those cars

the dealer refuses to change the miles, they said I must purchase a new cluster for them to touch it...any ideas?

I escallated to the service manager..he said the same thing.

what is needed in programing the miles? just a tech II?

Hmmm is there anything in the service manual on this issue?

I dont have a 2000+ FSM...but would appreciate it if anyone could find out as well.

I'm not paying $800 for a new cluster When I sell the car I want it to have the right ammount of miles though.

Instrument Cluster Odometer Operation
Odometers
All clusters are equipped with a season and trip odometer. The Base cluster has a dedicated display for the season odometer and a dedicated display for a trip odometer. The Up-level cluster has two trip odometers. The cluster only displays one trip odometer at a time along with the season odometer. The trip odometer shall be switchable by the Odo/Trip button.

The odometer system works in the following way: A transmission speed sensor sends a signal to a speed sensor buffer located in the PCM. The PCM buffers the speed signal to a 4000 pulse per mile signal which is sent to the cluster. The vehicle mileage is determined by counting the speed pulses and calculating the mileage for odometer displays.

Season Odometer
The season odometer displays the total accumulated miles/km of the vehicle. This value is permanently stored in the EEPROM of the IPC. If an odometer malfunction occurs or if the IPC must be replaced, an authorized Delco service center must be contacted to program proper vehicle specifics (including mileage) for the IPC.

The season odometer is capable of displaying 999,999 kilometers or 999,999 miles depending on units selected. Leading zeros are not displayed. The display will not roll-over to 000,000 if the maximum displayed mileage or kilometers are reached. If the display limit is exceeded, the maximum value (999,999) is displayed. If the mileage is above 621,503 and metric units are selected the odometer shall display 999,999 km.

Trip Odometer
The trip odometer displays the accumulated mileage/km to the tenths of a miles/km since the last reset. This value is stored in KAM of the IPC. The Up-level IPC has two trip odometers which can be selected by pressing the TRIP A/B button. The Base level IPC has only one trip odometer. The trip odometer(*) may be reset on the IPC by pressing the TRIP RESET button when the trip information is being displayed in the DIC. If a button is not used to reset the trip odometer, the display will roll-over automatically as follows. The trip odometer will roll-over at 999.9 miles when operated in English mode and at 999.9 km in metric mode. When the trip odometer is displaying greater than 621.4 miles (operating in English mode) and the English/metric button is pressed, the trip odometer will reset to zero and display km values. If the English/metric button is pushed again, the cluster will convert the displayed km value into miles.
