Not sure if this topic has been posted before?? If it was I sure couldn't find it??
We were on our way out of town and stopped to fuel up. When my son started the car, the A/C was completely dead, no lights on the panel nothing. When we started driving my son noticed the HUD was not working and that the Trac off, Brake and ABS light were on. We returned home and parked the bonny and took my wife’* escape on the trip.
•After 3 days of troubleshooting, taking things apart, reviewing threads and looking at wiring diagrams I tracked down the problem.
•Everything checked out back to the ignition switch.
•All of the items and a few more get their power feed when the ignition switch is in the Run/On position.
•I removed the ignition lock and switch from the dash.
•The top comes off of the ignition switch and reveals the 5 fingers or tabs that make up the different switch configurations according to the position of the key.
•Each of these fingers or tabs have a contact on them that mates up with a contact block on the bottom and completes or closes the circuit.
•One of the contact blocks from the bottom was floating around loose inside the switch (see picture).
•This contact was for the switch leg that sends power to the following circuits: HVAC, HUD, ELC, Heated Seats, ABS, and a few others.
•I soldered the contact block back in place, put everything back together and the problem was solved.
I am not sure how long the repair will last, but at least I know how to fix the problem if it occurs again.
