Default High beams don't work!

But I know why.

I was looking at the steering column today to fix something and I pulled the plastic piece off that covers the lever for the wipers/cruise. Well upon doing so I knocked a black plastic piece out which I found locks the lever in the back position to turn the high beams on. I first thought I broke something, but the piece is not broken.

I tried to fix it for about an hour, and I think I finally found out how the piece fits back in, but I cannot get it to work right. There is a metal rod that this piece is supposed to push to turn the highs on (if I understand it correctly).

Does anyone have a clue how to fix this? It'* probably a very strange problem. If someone could take some pics of inside the column it should help. Thanks!

I was certain I would be the only one!

Have you found some other solution to work the highs? I don't do a whole lot of driving at night, so I'm not too upset (anymore), but I'd like to fix it eventually.

I needed a new switch, so I just mounted the new one under the dash where my long monkey arms can reach it. I've got plans for a floor mounted switch.

ahhhh yes, does anyone remember the floor mounted dimmer switches? They are terrible for winter vehicles. Salt and grime gets caught in it and it siezes up.

Not if you do it right.
