Any suggestions for painting plastic parts?

Default Any suggestions for painting plastic parts?

My sight shield under the hood has seen better days and I thought that a coat of paint might spruce it up a bit. Any suggestions so that it doesnt come out looking like a kindergartener did the job?? Any suggestions on paint to handle the engine heat?

Sight shield? Are you referring to the cowl cover (where the wipers go when they sleep)?

If so, that can be brought back from the dead w/o paint.

Ah...THAT thing.

Personally, I would look for a cover that fits the 2k models on up. It will fit the older years just fine I would think, and doesn't trap in as much heat as that monstrosity.

If you are talking about the engine cover like this? (of course, mine is a 2000)

....then yes, you can paint it with Krytox Fushion paint (made for plastics). Wash it thoroughly in a degreaser like Simple Green first. Here'* mine after... I chose a "hammered metallic" look.

I painted the lettering by hand...

No. They should only fit the 95-99 L36, in addition to their own 2k-up.
