Default Steering Wheel Cover

Hey there -

Searched the forums and googled for about an hour but I wasn't able to find the answer to this question:

Does anyone know of a website that makes steering wheel covers which cover your entire steering wheel? The center of the wheel on my 92 SE is very worn and I'm sure it'd be hard to find and costly to replace the whole wheel. I'd rather cover it up for the time being.

I'd really appreciate any help you guys and gals can offer.

Thanks!

If you are look for a leather cover check out http://www.wheelskins.com/ You have to acually sew it on, and they look really nice once they are oon and done. You can get two-tone, preforated ect.

I don't know of anyone offering a cover to cover the center of your wheel. Isn't that where your airbag is? I would have to believe that it'* both illegal and unwise to cover that in any way.

You could look into replacing just the center cover piece if that'* your problem, but as far as I know the center cover is part of the air bag assembly and not available seperately.

You might consider buying some of the vinyl paint products available at your local auto parts store. These are made in the OEM colors and you can even get the texture base coat to match. It'* an alternative you should consider.

Wow. I can't believe I never thought of the air bag. Seems so obvious now.

I'll see if I can find a new wheel in a yard somewhere, if not I'll follow your suggestions.

Thanks so much!

Some of the interior matching paints that many are using here would be a good choice. Dealing with replacing the airbag sounds risky to me, but I am sure somebody has gone through the process here.

get a new one...

instruction are in techinfo under steering wheel controls fix

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Pull the SIR fuse from the main fuse panel.
3. Remove 4 torx screws from back of steering wheel.
4. Disconnect the horn, stereo control, and SIR connectors.

NOTE: Disconnect the copper spade terminal from the back of the airbag assembly when disconnecting the horn. The other end (down in the column) is very fragile and brittle.

5. Remove the airbag assembly.

Vinyl paint that comes in spray cans works really well. I haven't used it in my car, but I've used the stuff in the past and it really does work. You just have to get the stuff made specifically for painting vinyl. Fortunately, car parts stores usually carry it in convenient interioir colors like gray, camel, brown, white, and black.
