Tinting tails....again.
This is like the 23rd time I think.
Anyway, a 'new' set for the Zilla, and the Zilla'* old set gets refreshed and restored for the 95, which I'll 'retire' the tails from.
(notice how the SE/SLE tails yellow over the reverse lights? I don't likey)
New tail wetsanded and ready for final clearcoat:
Inner tails done:
Outer tail done:
Better shot of one of the inners:
The Zilla'* OLD set, destined for the SLE. These have been wetsanded, alcohol wiped, two more light coats of tint, and cleared. Ready for wetsanding and final clearcoat:
The difference this time is that I'm un-masking the reverse lights for the last two light coats of tint on both sets. The difference is subtle, but I like it better than totally un-tinted.

I was just tinting my tails today too, but the inner tails on mine ended up looked all cracked up before I even got to the clearcoat. Any idea what would cause that?
The outer tails I put on were off a diff car and in MUCH better condition (smooth and shiny). I sanded, smoothed, and alcohol-wiped the inner tails (originals off my car) as best I could, but they were faded and old and seemed a bit frail (as plastic over years tends to do), and when done, they are not very good. So, what'* your take on it?

Clearing the tails to seal micro-cracks will work better, so the tinting can't wick in there and 'amplify' them.
This set of tails didn't need it. The last set I did would have been better if I'd done it first.
Here'* the Zilla'* new tails made from the set I bought from TFC:
Pics of the SLE (with Zilla'* refreshed tinted tails) will be up tomorrow when I get the right nuts. My nuts aren't the right size!

For a rush job, (2 sets in half a day) they came out pretty good. Painting conditions were better than when we did yours, so I only had to wet-sand between the two heavy coats of clear.
The Zilla'* old taillights 'refreshed' much better than I expected.
