Do NOT use Castrol Super Clean on your engine! It will EAT the paint on your inner fenders and strut towers, not to mention the STB itself, all other painted parts, and your fans and belts will sling it onto the fenders.

I use gunk foamy engine brite. Follow the directions on the can. Use two cans with a rinse and dry in between if necessary.

i only let it sit for a couple minutes, then risne with my power washer. it didn't harm any paint, or belt.

is that if it sits for a long period of time?

It takes very little time to etch the paint. Especially if there'* no clear on top, which there isn't in the engine bay.

There are hundreds of other options besides a product known to damage paint (which is why I use it to strip paint off parts).

Remember my hood?
And my hood vents?

Don't use CSC anywhere near paint you care about. Even under the hood.

Simple green works but Foamy engine brite is faster and more effective. Thats what I've used for years

I've been using simple green just because it was given to me. Seems like it leaves a white residue on parts though... maybe I'm letting it sit too long though.
