Default Roof rust

Hey guys
I use to have an account from a while ago but ever since a small, fender bender of a car accident that got me a little demoralized, I haven't been posting. Well I'm back but totally forgot what my ID was. Anyway was wondering if you guys could help me with something. Winter hit my bonneville pretty hard and I guess thats what caused a spot of rust appearing on the roof just above the left rear passenger door. There are noticeable flecks of paint chipping off on top of the rust as well as around it. Because I have a lot of hood scratches, I'm considering getting a paint job later on but I'd like to touch it up now to make sure the rust doesn't keep eating away at my roof. I'm thinking of going at it with some steel wool, then put some primer and then some spray paint just on the one spot as a temperary measure but would like to hear from you guys since you've all been a great help in the past. Thanks
- Matt
