Interior Neons
I just bought some neons from oznium.com and am waiting for them to come in the mail, but I thought this would be a good time to get an idea of how to mount and wire them up. Could anyone who has done them help me out? My plan is to light up the footwells right now, maybe one under the seat and one under the dash on both sides? I bought two 12 inch cold cathode kits. Thanks for any help!

12 inch neons are a pain to mount due to the length, led'* are way easier and put out more light. under the seat might be impossible. but if you figure out a way, just remeber to hard wire them with a switch. Nothing worse then seeing a car with a bunch of cig. lighter plugs hanging all over the place.

I bought a pair of cold cathodes a couple years ago. I was going to use them in my car originally. Theyre for computer modding. A 12 inch neaon shouldnt be difficult to mount, but the problem is that you will see the tube because the light is emitted in a 360 degree pattern. To solve this you could use a piece of U channel, you can find it in black in the plastic trim section of Home Depot or Lowes. Your CCs should have a block of plastic at either end for velcro mounting (mine did) and to fit it in the channel you should pop those off. Dont mount them with 2 way tape because it will eventually fall off. I use self tapping screws into the underdash plastic.
It wouldnt be hard to mount them under the seats, but its all dependant on if you want the tubes hidden.
You can hook them all up to one switch and run that switch to power from the ignition harness, or you can even tap into the +12 and GND from behind the cigarette plug so that it uses the cig fuse and you dont have gaudy plugs. I would wire them to a differant switch the put the switch in the glove box, in the center armrest, under the dash on the left, somewhere not noticeable.
I ran the leds in my buick off of the dome light circuit. I made a cardboard plug to fit into the 194 socket of the pre-existing underdash lightbulbs. I unplugged the constant power from my rear view mirror lights so when I want the glow on by itself I just turn on the dome lights and then switch off the ceiling light manually.
