how do i use it.. i see it personally doing miracles to most members cars and i was amazed so i went out and bought some.. mcguires scratch x and i also bought a 6'' electric polisher buffer. is there anything else i need to get to get the swirls out of my paint......?

and how do i use it.. what are the amounts used and what are the steps to see an improvement.?

You'll have to experiment. Try 3-4 dime sized blobs on the pad and go slow assuming you bought an orbital buffer. I mean, really slow like 1inch per second. If it'* a rotary, go faster like 3-4 inches per second. I've never used ScratchX, but assuming it'* like other polishes it will be a solid white or gray, work it in several passes over each area (about 2 feet square) until the polish is pretty clear.

I am not even sure how well it will work with a buffer, I believe it is more of a hand polish.

Remember though that either way you go about it, it is only a very light polish and won't really remove heavy or deep swirl marks It will remove much of the hazeness from the paint though.

In this picture, you can clearly see the difference in swirls, but, there are still MANY swirl marks that the Scratch X won't touch.


Here you can see a better represantation of just what it will and will not do. at about the middle of the pic you can see the line of where I worked the Scratch X and where I stopped. You can see that much of the haze is gone and it does give a better reflection, BUT, many swirlmarks will still remain.



I did the entire car by hand with the Scratch X and honestly was very impressed with the results. I do not have a buffer yet, so Scratch X is the best I can do at the moment.


If you use it by hand, I usually use about a dime to nickle sized amount on my pad and rub it in very firmly in an area about one square foot. depending on temperature / humidity / sun or shade you can do more or less at a time, but that will take some expirementing.

Wow, I've heard that stuff is pretty decent. I expected to see better results than that. How long did you work it for in an area?

When you are using Scratch X you really need to put your entire body weight behind the pad while working the product. Do not expect any results at all if you apply it like you would a wax.

If the ScratchX doesn't cut it, you should be able to pick up some professional Meguiars polish (#80, 81, 83, etc.) at a local paint supplier or possibly a parts store. This is the sort of result you should be able to achieve (and this was just one pass, as you can still see swirls on the right) with a proper polisher and polish:

That is about all you can get as far as swirl marks go using Scratch X. I worked those areas for a minute or so and pushed very hard. Like I said, Scratch X is a very fine hand polish and is not meant to remove heavy swirlmarks. It does do a great job, however, at removing scuff marks. Believe me, this stuff is no substitute for a good buffing / polish job, but if you don't have a buffer this stuff is great. That Neon actually probably needed some light wetsanding the paint is so bad. Trust me, the Scratch X did do wonders with this car, even if the results seem less then impressive in th pics.



I found Scratch X from people on this site and decided to try it. I was very impressed with it and have since never been without it. I have also showed a few members and friends what it can do and they have all also been amazed


Don't forget, it also works pretty good on plastic headlights and taillights

ya but they make Plastix for that

right, but if you already have Scratch X, you can try it out and there may not be a need to buy the Plast X

That plastix crap works great on CDs and DVDs
