Crosslace painting...
Considering doing some wheel painting once i'm in the cities this spring here, and my major concern is prepping my crosslaces.
They're the standard '93 silver crosslace, with tons of gunk on the lip from previous wheel weights and what not, that'll be enough of a chore on it'* own to get rid of.
Sanding is really out of the question, I doubt a wire wheel, or some other dremel attatchment will be even close to time effecient, which kinda leaves me with media blasting IMO. I have no media blasting equipment, or know anyone (i think) that does.
Any ideas, options?

Do you have access to an air compressor? You can get a kit from Eastwood for $45 to do your own media blasting from a bucket. It comes with a hood, gun and gloves.

I looked in to painting crosslaces. I picked up Curt'* thread. Media blasting wouldn't get the coating off. I never saw the finished product, but he did a heck of job clearing the paint. But it was too arduous for me. I looked into paints. This is what I found out. I haven't started because my car time has been taken up by immediate needs. FWIW....

did this when i had my trans am. damn i miss that car.
the TA had similaar wheels called GTA wheels. they were clearcoated on the polished part. i took 3M scuff pads and went through the whole inner wheel where the gold was and then taped off the outer lip. i then just used wheel paint and painted them black. i let them sit for a half hour hten clear coated them. they came out perfect. took about 1 hour per wheel.
im sure it would be the same as these wheels. its a hassle. but its cheap!
