Default What should I use to clean my motor(*)

ok, I have 4 dirty motors that I would like to clean.

Motor 1 is a 93 L67 that is in my car currently. What should I use to clean it with, and how should I go about it?

Motor 2 is a 93 L67 with no SC that is out of the car. Motor currently has a spun bearing, but I'll probably be rebuilding it over the summer so it'd be nice to have it cleaned up to work with.

Motor 3 is a 94 L67 complete minus coil pack and alternator. Currently on an engine stand. Complete wiring harness attached. This one is a running pull that I will not be rebuilding before using, so extra care will need to be used here.

Motor 4 is a 17 Buick 350 with 2bbl carb. This one is COVERED in oil and dirt. it'* made the garage very messy, but was a good running motor when pulled and turns over well now. This one i would like to clean up some to try and sell. It is also on an engine stand and complete oil pan to carb.

I probably should clean the B18C1 in my Integra too, but that'* getting driven so it'll get dirty again faster.

I have never cleaned/degreased a motor before, nor have I heard of people doing it with the motor out of the car. What products should I use? Anything I need to be careful of? Motors 3 and 4 would be done first as they are here with me.

All Help is appretiated. Thanks.

I use Simple Green Max. Works very well espeacialy with how dirty my Jeep'* engine get'* from wheeling.

Cuts through grease and muck and I don't have to worry about it eating paint or plastic. I buy it in the gallon jug because I use it for various other cleaning duties like rims, tires, vinyl siding, ECT

It will NOT eat plastic. I used it to strip paint off my plastic hood vents, and it'* revered by train modelers for stripping paint off plastic HO train models, and not hurting the plastic.

It won't hurt powedercoated parts like heads and engine blocks.
I use it to clean many types of plastic car parts. It cuts grease great.

Thanks, I'll look into the simple gren max and the castrol stuff when I get to the store next (still need to wait for it to warm up again)

Now, for the motors on the stands, should I do anything special before cleaning them? I assume I need to cover all the oprn coolent and oil ports, but if there any other things I should be careful of?

Just to add, Gunk Engine Brite works really well too. Just use it in a ventilated area.
