New Tires. (245/45/18)
I'm hoping they will not rub. Before purchasing them I reviewed several threads regarding members running 245/45/18s and from the looks of it the rubbing problem will be minimal or non-existent.
These tires are one heck of a deal. $380 for a set of 4 or $95 a tire. They are not only cheap but are the Number 4 tire in its class on tirerack.com..however that is a moot point. To put things in perspective a set of Bridgestone RE750 tires retail for $101 a piece from tirerack. That price is for the 225/60/16s. Furthermore the RE750 is a "Ultra High Performance Summer". The Dunlop'* are a "Max Performance Summer". Considering the normal speeds on many interstates in this part of the country are 85-95mph it is very important to have a fresh set of tires for safety reasons. My current tires are the "walmart special" I forget the brand but its something you have never heard of before.
These are the EXACT same diameter (within 0.16") however about 1/2" wider on each side. I will be trying them out at the local 8th mile on opening day to see how bad the 60ft time is with them.
I also did the endlinks today, extremely painless job when you just cut them in half. I figure any handling lost by lower profile tires (less ability to flex) will be alleviated once I beef up the suspension. Please note, I have since loosened the nut on the endlink since I over-tightened it slightly. still about 1/8th of thread exposed.
Rims should arrive soon. The car should look amazing. Performance is on the backburner for now as I'm more interested in looks rather than burning up my trans. With a 3.3 I'm faster than any of my friends cars, and as fast as my friends with F-Bodies
They are sorta my birthday present to myself considering my 21st is tomorrow.
