Default my tinted tails- how i did it.

hey all. ive been getting a few pm'* and youtube messages about how i did my taillights and i figured id just make a thread about it. basically all i did was get some 30% peel n cling gila window tint from advance auto for about $5 got a small screwdriver and some scissors. also, it helps to either have a low heat hairdryer or do this outside on a warm sunny day so you can stretch it and get a shinier finished product with little to no air bubbles. its really thick plastic (thicker than a beachball) so there is virtually no tearing issue.

on my particular car it was exceedingly easy to do it because i didnt have to worry about edges. what i did was took the chrome trim ring off the edges and tucked it underneath. basically you just stretch it over and youre done. super simple you can see the running lights even in direct sunlight and because its peel n cling if for some reason you get pulled over by that ******* cop that is having a bad day you can pull it off on the spot. the only time ive had a peeling issue is when i accidentally pulled the trigger on the self serve carwash real close to the edge on the trunk lid where you cant really wrap the edge over, and even then it was a 1/4" section that came up and i just pushed it back with my thumb and it looked good as new.

i know this isnt for everyone being that it is plastic and all but if you're worried about cops this method looks good, has a real nice shine, a ton more transparent and easier than vht niteshates and wont ruin your lights. if anything they will protect them. and if you dont like the look or you decide to sell your car you dont have to go trekking through the junkyards and pay $70.

here are some pics, and a short vid

thanks alot for all the compliments. i would not recommend this for windows though, too thick of a gauge and it makes it have that wavy mid 90'* tint look lol

Great work and thanks for sharing. Won't work for everyone like Brian mentioned, but a great mod that won't break the bank.
