My new Aurora I'm getting has severly sun-damaged paint on the roof, and will need to be repainted. Anybody got a suggestion as to what kind of paint job to get that wouldn't be really expensive (under $400 is my goal) But would still be good, look good,. and last a while? She only NEEDs the roof done, but she could also use some touchup on a few bad scratches and scuffs along the side of the car. Any suggestion for those, too? Just looking for best bang for the buck, I guess, best combination of looks, durability and cost. Anyone? Thanks again, guys

I was once told I should never wander in here and lemme show you why...Is there a difference? I mean what exactly is it you're looking for as answer? Is it like red is more durable or is it something like "PRD-3 is best" ? Or are you just talking companies?

Something along the lines of "If you were in my situation, with the availability of funds similar to my situation, level of expertise similar to mine (I'm pretty lost when it comes to paint) what would you do?" And don;t say paint it yourself :P I'm talking if you had to get it painted by someone else, and couldn't do it yourself. So... what do you say to that? Go to walmart [make sure your 18! with photo id!], and pick up some duplicolour paint.. with the colour you want. Then, and ONLY THEN!! take it to your local body shop.. and say paint this car [point to car] with this paint [shake can]. I want it done by tomorrow, and I'll pay you $500. You'll get your car painted for $500 that way, can't beat that price!

Ahh, if you wanted to paint the whole thing isn't sanding it more time consuming than technically difficult? Doing the prep work for a paint job will probably save you a TON. Maybe look into what it'll take to do that much yourself.

Take it to a body shop and get a quote. Then you'll have a total price to work off of.

didn't you do a lot of body work on your bonnie? If you know how to do that levelling thing with the primer and such.. i'd go after doing that. I am sure you can rent a compressor + gun fairly cheap for the week or so, and just work your *** off getting it done. doc does have a point.. the prep work is the majority of the cost. If the body shop only has to lay the paint and clear.. that'll save you a lot of money.

Look what happened when I tried the same procedure with my Bonnie :( Actually, it wasn't I who prepped it, but I don't want to go into that again...

Besides, I don't have time to take the time to do it right. All she NEEDs is the roof, and I figure the rest just needs touch-up and blending. I'm thinking I'll take it to the local MAACO place (heard good things about the specific location near me from a number of people) and ask for one of their paint levels (economy, value, whatever) I guess one of my big questions was what level i should get. Should I get the cheap one and just repaint it every year? Or should I go for the expensive, good one. Should I buy my own paint? I heard Emron is good all-around stuff. That kind of stuff. Any suggestions there?

I've got quotes as low as $900 for a full repaint, But that'* only because I've known the man for about 3 years and he lives next door to the rent house. And that'* with me stripping the chrome off, sanding, doing most of the bondo, pulling the lights and bumpers, Popping the hood off and pulling the spoiler. Then once it'* basically prepped he'll make my bondo work look really good, give it final once over and spray it with PPG paint in the factory color. Then I get to put it back together with new chrome and lots of other goodies. It'* alot of work, but it'* not really that technical.

Yea, I know, alot of work. I'll leave that to them and concentrate on all the other things I have to do But thanks for the advice
