I tried searching around here and couldn't find anything...

I'm wondering if there is a way to enable the rear door windows to lower more than they do on my 95 SLE? They only go down about 5-6 inches and I'd like to be able to lower them all the way, or at least most of the way down...Has anyone modded theirs to allow this? Or should I be the guinea pig? lol :?:

From what I can remember, the problem you are going to run into is where the rear wheel well cutout is in your rear door.

One solution is to chop the top so that now the windows wouldn't have so far to drop down... LOL!

With enough money, anything can be accomplished, but in all honesty, I think it would be much more trouble than it'* worth. But if you wanted to work on it, I would suggest buying a door with glass from the junk yard and pull the outer skin off of the door so you can see how everything works and plan your modificatoins. The outer door skin does not hold any of the window regulator mount points so you should be able to remove it and still have a fully functioning window.

Good idea, but I really don't see how the rear fenderwell would have any bearing on it at all. In this profile shot (not my car, but a twin), the rear window looks like it "should" be able to go most of the way down without any worry about the curve of the door...but who knows.



I wonder if it just has some sort of limiter in their as a child safety feature, I'd guess??

Open the door though and look at how much more of an indent there is from the wheel well. I know on my '01, there is quite an indent even though it is further in front of the rear wheelwell than the previous gens are. Looking from the outside really doesn't tell you a whole lot.

Like I said, if this is something you really want to do (or just want to look into), the cheapest thing to do for now is to grab a junkyard door (shouldn't be more than $100) and cut a rather large inspection hole out of the door skin. Watch the window and track as it moves down and from there plan your modifications. You really could pull your door trim off on your doors to get a picture of what'* going on inside, but you could see more with the outer skin off.

That'* probably a good idea...as well as a possible Tech Tip for the future....or not. LOL...

you may be able to get it to go lower...not sure if it would go all the way down..let us know though...i wouldn't mind mine going lower..heh

I'm going to pull the panel off later this week and take a look-see...the little bit they go down now is pretty much worthless IMO...

i have had my rear door panels off many of times and the windows could go a little much lower, but not very much, maybe a inch or so....i never roll my rears down anyway

I agree. When you pull a rear door panel, you'll see that it'* not really possible.

OK...you guys have convinced me...now on to something else to think about...maybe wheels, lol...
