As mentioned before, you could just disable your DRL'*.
In your year Bonneville it is so easy to do. Open your hood, now look at your CPU cover. Now take it off of your CPU. Look inside of your fender for a white bar with two wires going to it. Now disconnect it. One single plug. That was your DRL resistor.
Disabling your DRL'* will not affect any other light function. So don't worry about your Auto lights or twi-light sentinel either.
The whole reason for your DRL'* is so you have a better visual for oncoming traffic so beware of this once you disable them.
The reason why they will burn out your HID'* is because DRL'* run at 80% voltage during the day and when your auto lights come on during the night they are at full 100% voltage output.
The drop in voltage will make your HID'* flicker since they are very sensitive to power fluctuations.
There is one other option that I doubt many people know here for the DRL'*........
Down by your BCM where the wire harness plugs into it, there is a pink with white stripe wire coming out of it. This wire is your DRL signal wire. By splicing a 10 uFd/25V electrolytic capacitor in this wire you will trick the DRL system in running them at full power 100% output giving your HID'* all the power needed to run just fine. If you go this route then all you have to do is go to radio shack and buy the capacitor for $1.10 and then install it. Splice the positive side of the capacitor in the pink w/white stripe wire and connect the negative side to a good ground point anywhere in the car.

You should really use a relay harness beacuse the stock lowbeam wiring is not very strong, the 80% voltage should be enough to energize the relay which is all you need to make them turn on, well and a constant positive and ground

Its very easy to do one you understand how it works and it extends the life of your ballasts and bulbs because they will want to flicker when the voltage drops when you crank the car, I have figured out a way around this so when the starter is engaged there is a relay that cuts power to the HID harness but they still flash for a second in between the time I turn the car to ON and hit my START button

Well my DRLs were originally the high beams running in series so I didn't have to worry about that but I disabled them when I made a custom set of headlights and made the Audi strips come on all the time

wow, some really good ideas here. Im not sure which one I want to pick just yet, as I dont have a lot of time to invest into this.. hence why I thought I would just use HID'* for the fogs and be able to turn them on and off at will from inside the cockpit.

You will still be able to control them using the factory switch, I'm suggesting replacing the current housing with a new one that is made for HIDs, they will go in the same spot and the HID harness will be controlled by one of the factory bulb connectors
