Default Help, messed up window trim!

So last night I tried polishing the area above the drivers door with Meguirs Gold Class polish or whatever it'* called. I got some on the black trim at the top of the door. It made it smeared and dull. I've tried washing it, and several other things and can't get it shiny again. I'm assuming I messed up the finish on it since it appears to be plastic or hard rubber? It seems like just wiping it with a terrycloth towel even marrs it. Any solutions other than painting it?
