The black plastic strip that goes around the rear winshield of my 92 se was bubbling off near the top and complete unstuck near the bottom sides. the plan was to use silicone dealent (liquid nails brand) to re tack the strip on.
the stuff took longer to dry then i expected, and i did half of the strip at one time i was unable to hold it all down so now its a huge mess. also, when i tried to wipe some of the excess silicone off the car, some of the black form the strip must have mixed in, so now i have a black smudge on my roof, which is now silicone sealed in. im not as worried about the strip as i am about the smudge. can anyone help me out with some ideas? will caulk remover or a similar product work to get the smudge off without taking off the cars clearcoat or whatever it has?

as soon as it dries, you should be able to just rub it off with your finger

thank you i will try that. that is a very nice picture of your car i must say.

get some jb weld.. and use some painter'* tape to hold it on [that way the tape will come off clean]. You would be suprised how useful jb weld is my friend! If you can, point the area where you will be jb'n it towards the sun.. it will dry much quicker that way.

i would think silicon would be better, as it would be more waterproof. and silicon is a lot easier to remove than jb weld, as it is STEEL!

yep, sure is. I don't know about the waterproof thing however. I have never had it under water, but I do know silicon.. is not exactly the best either.. because I had my thermostat siloconed to my thermostat housing, and it wouldn't stick for anything, because it was drowning in coolant.

silicon is made for making waterproof bonds, as long as both surfaces are dry and have texture

yeah, my coolant could eat anything, including your nose! damn cat **** smelling coolant.
