A couple of weeks ago my heater core went bad and i am wanting to know the best way to get the antifreeze out of the carpet. Also when i got this car there was this red stuff on the rear seat. I have looked at it more closely and it looks like it might be nail polish is there any way to remove this without damaging the leather.

The die hards here actually remove the seats and center console if you have one, and remove their carpets. Some take them to a do-it-yourself carwash and power spray them, others spray with Simple Green, scrub. and hose off. They let the carpets dry in good weather, then replace. If there'* a carpet padding under the carpet, you could pitch it and replace with new padding from a carpet store that you cut to fit.

You might get by without removing the interior if you rent a good extraction carpet steamer with an attachment wand.

Acetone (nail polish remover) might work on nail polish, but be really careful about leather. DEFINITELY test on an inconspicuous piece first. Scrubbing leather with any sort of solvent is a really good way to permanently mar leather by removing the tanning dye. If nobody has any better advice, check with a clothing drycleaners, those guys know how to get just about anything out of anything if it can be done.

Otherwise, maybe look for upholstery at a salvage yard?

The extractor is good advice. The carpet cleaners you rent at a food store or at a hardware store will not work. You might want to seek out a professional detailer that has a carpet extractor. Good extractors start at about $450.

For the leather have you tried a leather cleaner yet? There are some good cleaners that you can find at an Auto Parts store. Lextol and Megs are not that expensive and work well.

thanks guys i have actually already removed the carpet from the car. I had thought about going to the car wash to spray it down with the pressure soap. I wasnt sure if i would make the carpet and pad seperate or not so i wanted to ask first.

I will be doing it tomorrow cuz i am returning the car to the dealer (6 months with nothing but a dealer tag and a bad torque converter) i am done with this car. Dont worry thought im sticking with a bonneville. There is a black on black ssei at another dealership that i will be getting with half the mileage on the car i have now.
