Default car has rust showing threw spray paint?

I believe the previous owner just pulled out a spray can and painted over the rust because I can see the dark spot underneath the paint. The car is white and the rust is on the lower doors. Michigan weather Could someone give me an example of what I need to do to fix this problem? I do have a car buffer for waxing and a hand held electric sander.

Not too bad, I just notice the darker showing under the paint and it makes it obvious what was done. I think the owner did it to try and sell the car they also painted the hub caps.

It almost looks like I could add another coat and it would cover it.

before i sold my lumina, i would give it weekly paintjobs

most of it was just surface rust, and if thats ur problem, sand it down, prime and paint it...

if there is actaully a hole there, just keep painting it or put some white duct tape over it and paint to match....yup did that too

whatever your ambitions are for it, dont use bondo...lol. as for the rust, sand the rusted area only, youll have to get some touch up paint GM code for the paint. Layer it and if necessary clear coat to match it. I did that on my blazer I took to silver lake. worked good for being blasted with sand all the time.

Hey harofreak I read I read the messages under Shhhhhhh. funny. Willl duct tape actually hold under the paint? Sorry I am not going to do weekly paint jobs.

Chad thanks for the advise on NO BONDO. How long did the paint last on your car with the driving conditions you go threw? Did you use clear coat?

After you get the rust or what you can, just do the paint. Make sure not to press hard on the tip or it wil streak an look like you were painting with cauk[sp]. If its not a bad spot, you shouldnt need CC to finish it. Post a picture of the spot or PM it to me.

Good topic...my '96 is beginning to bubble a bit on the bottom of the drivers rear door...**** me off I tell ya, thank you North Dakota/Minnesota DOT! Sometime this summer or next I'll sand down the area and shoot it with some GM spray paint...the spot it is located in would look fine if I take it that route, I think.
