My mom hit a deer with this car a few years back so the bumper hood and driverside fender were replaced....and the new bumper I dont think was put back on right...right under the headlights there is a slot where it looks like the bumper should be its a tad low and leaves a gap all the way across the car so its getting annoying:



i tried to just pull it up and around but not very forcefully, just enough to know it wont go, so i figure i have to take it off...the top part atleast....any tips on how to go about doing it...what not to do/what to do

Unfortunately almost every SSEi (including mine) has that gap. Bad design by GM'* part IMO.

After digging through my FSM, I found the bumper cover should be adjustable up and down. I had the same gap after a front end rebuild. I fixed it by wedging two grab handles and a 1/2" nut between the top of the bumper and the bumper cover. It took care of about half an inch.

Where is it adjustable?

My SSEi has never had front end damage, and has nearly an inch there by design. It'* for airflow to the radiator/engine bay. My SLE is a totally different bumper design, and has over a half inch there also.

It'* just more obvious on a white car.

The FSM calls for a 10mm gap from the bottom of the grille to the top of the front bumper on both bumper designs. It should be flush at the fenders. However, this is only for the SE/SLE bumper/grille from my experience. The SSEi/SSE should be 20mm from the grille to the bumper.

The energy absorber shims should be reinstalled where they were if you removed them. These dictate forward/rear position and balance in the bumper cover, and the only up/down adjustment is to loosen the energy absorbers and lift or lower the bumper before tightening them.

ok well maybe tha gap should be there then :?
it just really looks like the slot under the headlights i where is was suposed to be...and on th driver side fender the bumper meets the fender just a tad bit lower than the other side...

o well...i'll play with adjusting it a bit...we'll see

Shoot for flush fenders on each side, and 20mm between the grille and bumper. That should leave about an inch under the headlights. That'* identical to my 93.

k, i'll start playing with it in a little while...and see what i come up with...ah whats the worst i could do :P ?

it'* been awhile, but i messed with it today...but i think a i made the gap a bit bigger....i didn't finish yet i started late cuz i had SATs today...dad occupies the garage so i have to quit now...due to dinner and the race starting soon (In Richmond IR)

anyway....i have seen some bonneviles without that gap...and even if it should be like that im going to put it there cuz i'd rather not see a huge gap all the way across.....so I tried to do just one side at a time, and i almost got it but i couldn't quite pursuade it all the way up....i'm sure I had dicconected it on all of one side and the middle...i decided to put it back together before i quit but i think tommorrow i'll have an early start and i'll just completely take it off....any tips on taking it off....is there some connections that are hiding from me that i should watch for when i pull it off....or the airbag deploy switches....idk where they are but should i be worried about them? or anything else?
