Hey guys...I have a few questions for you..I was thinking about painting my ( I don't know what its called so deal with it ) were the shift **** is, the plastic under that, its attached to the ash tray. And was thinking about painting the plastic that goes around the gauges and on the radio/AC/etc controls. But I don't know how to take it off.

Does the plastic around the gauges, I have 2 holes on the upper part were you can't see, is there suppose to be bolts in there? Cause I don't have any..

Also what kind of paint can I use to paint the plastic? Just regular plastic spray paint?

Oh ok, I might need them unfortanely, because if you look at my gauges, you see it come down on the right side by the gas all the way to the lighting of the car..

Do you know if regular plastic spray paint would work for painting those pieces?

if you prep and prime, any normal paint should work fine.

I don't think so. When I had mine apart, it seemed to be a harder ABS type plastic with a thin cladding of elastomeric plastic (to get a 'soft' feel). I am a former mold maker and I notice things like this. Anyway, if you use a regular paint on the elastomeric plastic, it will not last long. It will probably crack and peel.

I suggest a product called FabSpray. I actually don't know if it still made, but I used some about 20 years ago. It is a spray paint/dye made for vinyl and fabric (like upholstery). If FabSpray isn't made any more, I'll bet there are other brands.

You may also want to get another piece out of junk yard to experiment.

There is a coating that you have to remove before you paint. It is that texture that you feel that will cause the paint to go funky. I used oven cleaner to soften it, a stoch-brite to remove it......and a alot of time. I can post pics soon

You definately do not want to use spray paint. Like was mentioned before it won't stay on the plastic for very long, even with a primer. You want to use a vinyl or plastic dyehttp://www.parasolinc.com/
