Keep in mind that using this stuff is in no way going to get you the results of having a real professional paint/mix sprayed on through actual guns.. this is a cheap alternative though. Definitely needs to be cleared in the end as it will help with the look and longevity of it.

I would wet sand with 1000 grit to prep the surface. a few light coats and lots of clear. I did my mustang'* third brake light and reflectors that way, my neighbor has a Harley Nightster and I did his rear signal covers that way too

Yup..if not gonna wet sand then be sure to use a gray ultra fine scuff pad..which is equal to about 1000 grit sandpaper. Simply washing and spraying the paint on is not going to last..it has nothing to stick to.. Hopefully you have better luck with yours, but I can tell you it might not hold up very long.
