Default Trunk capreting.

If you're one of those people unfortunate enough to have seen my 94'* trunk, you understand why I need trunk carpeting. Also, if you've been around here for a while, you may understand that I'm not looking for plain trunk carpeting.

There are stories of a Mustang forum on which some guy redid his interior in red crushed velvet. It was referred to as "Porno Red." This is most pleasing to me since it'* in sharp contrast to the asphalt black truck bed liner I have now, and I'll be able to surprise people with this.

What I'd like to do is to glue sponges to the trunk walls and add to the sponges some red crushed velvet. This is a great thread for everyone because the people who don't want me to have a Porno Red trunk can help with the first part, at least.

Sure, I could just put in sponges and red crushed velvet, but I'd like to discuss wiring, planning for future wiring, glues, cheap sponges, perhaps (though not necessarily) sound deadening, and so on. So, what do you guys think?

What else will the trunk be used for besides shocking people with porno red?
Are you going with a sub woofer and amp rack or amway sample organizer

For sure I would dynomat it since its all stripped out and it helps deaden the road noise.

I'm off on the whole sponge thing, what are you going to do with them?

I had to go and search the deep basement for this one but I think its the look you going for with the porno red and contrasting black.
It is from the original Bone Evil and Deathrat.

I would like to use the trunk for pretty much anything that comes up. I go grocery shopping sometimes, and though it'* weird to have such a color as this newly christened Radomir Red show up in a trunk in a grocery store parking lot, but oh well.

I put a lot of things in my car, and I even use it for work here:
http://www.petvacclinic.com/

I had a trunk battery, but it ran out of power and died because it'* from Wal Mart. Too bad. I'm going to replace it and get one more. Since when I put my car back together it'll have a carputer, a front speaker amp, a rear speaker amp, and a sub amp, I'll need in my trunk one or two isolators, two batteries, two amps, a sub box, and perhaps some speaker boxes hanging down from the rear deck.

The sponges I figured I'll have as cushions for the batteries and various other things. I'm going for a soft, squishy trunk bedding. Plus, red crushed velvet is tough to work with since it'* just so freaking soft and fun to touch. I thought I could just glue it to the sponges. That, and I have a lot of sponges.

If your going to use your trunk everyday the velour is not going to hold up. Its too muck like a wedding dress and is intended for limited use.
A good felt will be soft and will hold up for many years and comes in many colors.

Turning your trunk into a bean bag of sponges may sound groovy but think about a water leak for a moment? Those sponges would suck up water untill your rear bumper is dragging on the ground and would take 10 years packed in a salt mine to dry out.

Have you thought about fibreglass?

I agree. Factory trunk carpeting is very durable because it has to be. Velvet would in no way be suitable for a trunk that gets used in any way, that would be basically reserved for a "show" car, not a daily driver.

I also wouldn't go with red.... while I do agree that it would contrast with everything else, it would be the wrong contrast. Chrome rims, nice shiney green paint,...... bright red carpet in the trunk??? Trust me, don't do red. Make it a color that will be pleasing to the eyes, not one that will make you want to turn and run

All right, you've converted me on the color, maybe... But I have already gotten in some red crushed velvet for my band pass sub box. It'll go inside the sub area, behind the window.

So, is there pre-molded trunk carpeting somewhere that I can order in any color?
