The dash trim that goes over the hvac/radio is peeling worse than when I got the vehicle. I'd like to repaint it. Where would I find the paint that would match the black color it is now? I was considering this:

This can is from a computer cases I modded a few years ago. Took an old HP Pavilion case, cut a window into it, and painted it this, along with a dark blue with tons of clear on the front pieces. It was very durable.

Given that this can has a lot of dust on it, how do you think it would look? You think it would be possible to clear coat to eliminate the possibility of scratching?

Clearcoat will hide the texture. Use a plastic adhesion promotor first (after thorough cleaning with mild soap and warm water).

I assume it was painted before? OEM is just a colored plastic.


Try very light dusting coats after your first coat or two tacks up (tacky to the touch). Your finish will be more subtle and even that way. Try from a farther distance on the last two light coats, and spray in warm conditions.

It doesn't appear to be painted, but it'* peeling. It looks almost like somebody 'spilled' mineral spirits or somethign on it. But it'* just the top layer that'* peeling off. I'll go get a pic... brb.

Edit: I duno wtf would have painted it. First and previous owners were both in their 50s-60s. I've scoped them out from the original paper work in the owners manual lol.

You know... now to think about it... could soda do that? Somebody had a bad mishap with soda. I've pulled out the plastic where in the SSE and SSEi models would be the 9-way power seats, and it was full of gummy, gooey dried soda. Also, if you look at the headliner, there'* small brown spots on it, the defroster button on the HVAC can be hard to put sometimes, and look to the right of the cig lighter - random soda stuck in the crevices lol.

OEM is colored plastic but it also has a factory finish on it.

the oils from a smelly tree hanging from the cig lighter will do that.

notice the pattern. take the tree you have hanging from your mirror and place it there.
you'll see what I'm saying.

Hmm, that makes sense. I suppose I'll just have to be sure to clean it thoroughly before I do anything with it.

Sweet... I found some Bulldog Adhesion Promoter on clearance at Walmart for $4.00. I told the manager $2.00 and I'll take it out of your inventory. She said alright, that works.

I can't find that paint at Napa, Advanced Auto, Auto Zone, Walmart, Kmart, any of the local discount stores, nowhere. I'm going to head into Harrisburg friday. Getting a friend to take me in his civic in agreement that I'd find a CAI for him lol. That'll use a whole two gallons of gas round trip. I'll stop at the Pepboys in Harrisburg and see if they have that paint. If they don't I'll have to figure out an alternative.
