Carb problem-Carter
Hi
I have a problem with my Carburetor and hopefully someone on this board knows what the problem can be.
I have to give the carb a little drink to get car started, if it stands still over night. I have changed the new fuel pump, but the problem is still there.
I can put gas pedal to the floor 50 times, but no gas comes out of the carburetor.
When I have started the engine and if it stops before it begins to warm up, I have to give it some more fuel manually.
I really don’t understand it.

It'* been a very long time since I rebuilt a carburetor, but it sounds like the diaphram in the accelerator pump is worn out. In short, it'* time to take the carb off the car and get a rebuild kit.

yup sounds about right. have fun with it. i got a very similar if not same carter 4bbl on my 65. mine needs lots of accel pumping after sitting for a few weeks but i believe that is normal on these carbs i plan to switch to tripower 421 wenever i get all the engine parts together and get to building it

yes you could need an acc pump in the carb but check to see if the carb is not leaking down with plugged air bleeds this will drain a carb in about 6 hrs I found this on a 64 buick riv (same prob)

I've had the same problem with my 64 Hearse 389 4V AFB. I have to trickle a little gas down the carb to get her to kick. It (the carb) looks like crap from the outside so I plan to put a shiny new Edlebrock on it with elec. choke and insulating gasket. Then top it off with a shiny new air cleaner.
