Engine Size?
I currently have a 1982 Bonneville with what I thought was a 4.1L V6. The man that sold it to me even said it had the 4.1L in it, so a friend decoded the VIN an it plainly says when it was built it had a 4.1L in it. I'm currently changing oil pan gasket an I found the engine stamp. It says 3.8L. Is it possible that the 4.1L was swapped? I'm the third owner too by the way.

I looked in Alldata to see about your question. If you have a 4 bbl carb and everything is stock this should be a 4.1. The only way a 3.8 had a 4bbl from the factory was with a turbo. Is your car turbocharged? Does the car look like it has had an engine swap? I can't confirm this but I think a 4.1 is simply a 3.8 block bored out from 3.800 inches to 3.965 inches.

Not if it carries the 3.8 stamp. Turbo delete? Manifold/carb swap? Special order? Indeedly a strange one. GM was running out of engines for whatever reason in that time period and did some queer things. I remember Oldsmobile was sued for putting Chevy and Pontiac engines in their models without disclosing the fact.

Yep. Well I went a digging and low and behold. The "Brougham" trim level got the 4.1L.
Which Buick made by boring out a 3.8 to 3.965 inches.
Talk about "Stump the Forum" Your a first here Doggz with a "unique to us" Bonneville.
