Default Cant i get new headers for a 64 389cui?

Hello fellow enthuisiats!

Earlier this year i posted a post here, about a problem with finding a new intake manifold, and now i have the same problem at the bottom of the engine, wich really frustrates me.

I need new headers for my 389cui from 64, its stock and sits in my bonneville.

The only headers i can seem to find, are from 65 and up.

What do i do? my engine seems kinda useless if a cannot get headers for it, and its really getting to me, since i love the car, and the engine.

If anyone here, have some info or a able to help it would be much appreciated.

Regards

Hmm,, i have been told to just find some headers that fits the engine, and then "fit" them, so they are usuable on my bonneville.

Anyone who has any expierence with this? or knowhow? cause it seems to me, that its impossible to find new headers that fit my car exactly.

Anyone who knows if theese will fit me engine, and weather is very hard or easy to fit them, so i can use em on my bonneville?

Tanks for the help, it is very much appreciated.

If the 326-455 means all engines between that range then ya, it should fit your engine. The problem might come when you try to fit them in the car. You might find things are in the way. If your willing to do some work to get around this, it should be OK. But you might need to modify engine mounts, or cross members a bit.

If you do install these. I'm sure I speak for many here, we would like to see pictures of the install.

Yes, thats exactly what im affraid of, since im sort of new at all this, and now used to metalwork. So if i have to have something custom fitted i will have to pay my way out of it. I was really hoping that it would be possible to find some headers that actually fitted on my bonneville 64 but that have so far, proven to be a very hard task.

The Bonneville was never a car to be supped up. It'* very possible they will go on without a problem. But I can't say for sure. Slide them in and look is about all I can say. Remember the engine moves a bit so you need to allow for that.

Thanks a lot mate, ill most likely try that out. But i can be sure that they fit on the engine? when they are made to fit a GTO from the same year?

Sorry if my questions might be a bit stupid, but im have to order them from the US, and have then shipped to my home in Denmark, so i cant just order 4 sets of headers and return the 3 that dosent fit

On the bright side, there is a LOT of room in the engineroom, also on the sides, so if it fits the engine, i think as you also point out, there is a good chance they fit the car too.

And btw, thank you very much for the fast replies Dan, its much appreciated. Us US enthusiasts in Europe really benefit from people like you.

The engines are the same with some small differences. But they should bolt on. It'* the other stuff in the engine compartment that might be in the way. the Bonneville is a big car and may have enough space for them to fit.

Yes, thats what i thought. As i said, looking at the enginecompertment, there is a LOT of room. And underneath the car, there isnt really anything in the way i think.

I still hope i can use the old headers for the double exhaust though, that would be the easiest fix for this problem. But they are the original ones, from 64 - i bought the car i LA 1 year ago.

These aren't headers. These are some of the stock manifolds that would fit.
