Unhappy LIM Replacement

Hi guys. I'm looking for some advice. I recently took my 06 Malibu in to the chevy dealership and it was diagnosed with a lower intake gasket leak. They quoted me $695 for the repair. Car runs perfectly fine tho. The leak is visible on the outside. I'm just wondering if this is a reasonable price and if the upper also needs to be replaced?

sounds reasonable for someone to do. but its mostly labor, i would imagine you could get a kit and do it yourself under a hundred, rockauto has reasonable prices and alot of engines have felpro updated designs if there was a problem.

Justin is correct, you are mostly paying for labor, you can get the lower intake manifold gasket for 66.79 from RockAuto.
FEL-PRO Part # MS98013T , that comes with all the gaskets you should need, the only thing I do not see in the kit is the injector o-rings.

The Fel-PRO kit recommends replacing the bolts, if you can clean the threads well, then you could reuse them, but for 15.34 Rockauto has them.
FEL-PRO Part # ES72226

I wish I could be of more help, bit I am mainly familiar with the 3800 II 3.8L, not the 3.5L.

I'd recommend doing the upper intake, as well, so you won't have to do it later on down the road...how many miles are on your Malibu?

Are you sure he has a nylon upper intake?
I searched RockAuto and can only find the gasket, so I searched Nalley Buick Parts, and I found a pic of the plenum, it looks aluminum to me, attaching a pic of it.
He'll have to have the upper intake removed to get to the lower, and the LIM Kit comes with the plenum gasket, so I think he'll be ok as long as they put the new plenum gasket on.
Unless I am wrong, and his is in fact nylon/plastic.
