have not seen this one before........


driving home at dusk yesterday and was behind another vehicle and noticed my left headlamp looked dim. shut the lamps off and ran parks and fogs the rest of the way home.

got home pulled into the garage shut down fogs and reactivated headlamps. sure enough the left one had everything dimly light ( low, high, parks) removed headlamp cleaned a little corrosion on the prongs and re assembled. worked fine again. took apart again this morning to add some dielectric grease to prevent further corrosion and now the issue is back! WTF!!

need to drive it tonight to go to school and back so this has to be fixed quickly. any ideas????

If the bulb is ok the dim lit means the proper current may not be getting to the bulb. Look for another contact point that is not fully contacting or a wire that has a nick ion it making a intermittent partial connection (assuming voltage is good).

no knicks in the wires. voltage is good seems to be a cross current going on only in the left head lamp. the plugs are impossible to get apart to clean each individual wire and prong. also the headlights are encapsulated which means the head lamp wires are inside the head lamps instead of out side

they each have a seperate ground you could try cleaning. on my monte its right out in the open on top by the light

cleaned both plug and grounds, ordered new pair of black headlamps, still at a loss for why this happened again after applying dielectric grease

maybe one of the connector pins is loose. works, dont work, is usually a loose connection somewhere

finally figured out how to get the plug on the headlight side apart. cleaned all the prongs after removing each one. the green wire had a crap load of corrosion on it as well as the black. the rest were pretty clean. put back together and tested the lights so far it looks to be working however we will find out when i leave school tonight.

still have the new lamps on the way. needed them anyways since the right one has been leaking every time i wash the car.

and apparently i will be heading back to Iowa in the next couple weeks to get some more things we left behind as well as find the papers we need. what friggin fun $300+ to go find a stupid piece of paper so we can register the damn cobalt here in NH
