Default 2005 malibu glides

i hae a 2005 malibu 2.2ecotech auto trans. it idles at 7 or 800 rpm. i touch gas pedal it goes to 1000 rpm. if i brake to complete stop idle goes down to 800. at 20 -30 mph i let of gas it goes down to only 1000 rpm and just glides. if i put in reverse it stays at 7 or 800 rpm. seems like the rpm should kick down more when gas is let off of. is this normal for this car? other than that the car has no problems at all.if floor the gas it takes off like a bat out of hell.

Yes, there are predermined tables programmed into the computer for the idle. There is park/neutral idle, drive idle, reverse idle and coast idle. Coast idle is usually up a little higher than the others. Oh, there is even an A/C idle too.

So what you are seeing is normal.
