it has happened twice. I put the turn signal on ( yeah I am one of the last drivers who use a turn signal) a blinks a few times and goes dead. I keep trying the turn signal for a few minutes and still dead. Try again in 10 minutes it works. From what I remember The PCM controls the blinking, there is 12volts on the lamp and the PCM brings the other lead low to make a ground completing the circuit. Don't know if the turn signal goes through the BCM. I did have an issue like this with the BCM , I had disconnected the the connectors to try and find an open for my driver side door lock. After I reconnected the connectors I was driving and the mileage went blank then later came back on, did that twice and never again, that was about 4 years ago.

The ground is controlled by the bcm or light control module on some. I am not sure on your car but think it'* the bcm. If you know you had previously had issues with the connection that is where I would start

Circuit powers from the stop lamp switch, through the hazard switch, then the turn signal switch. 50/50 chance it'* the hazard or the turn signal switch. Best method is operate the hazard switch a few times then try the turn signals. Operating the hazards frees up the contacts to operate the turn signals. Majority of the time it'* the hazard switch.

Scratch the stop lamp switch part.

I think that is after the bcm or whatever causes it to blink. There is nothing there to cause it to blink

its a 2003 Impala, I had an open in the wire for my door lock so I removed the connector at the BCM and checked for an open from the BCM TO the IP bulkhead, then the other side to the door lock switch, so it actually was not a connection fault the connectors are fine, this seems more like the BCM, it doesn't flicker or go on/off/on, it just goes dead, then comes back on later. just was wondering if anyone had experienced this. BTW before, as always, I put the connectors back on I spray both sides with electrical contact cleaner. I will check the connectors again anyway.

Turn Signal Lamps
The TURN SIGNAL fuse in the LH I/P fuse block supplies ignition positive voltage to the hazard and turn signal lamp flasher assembly. The HAZ SW fuse in the RH I/P accessory wiring junction block also supplies battery positive voltage to the hazard and turn signal lamp flasher assembly. The turn signal lamps may activate only when the ignition switch is in the ON or ACCY position.

When the turn signal switch is placed in either the left or right position, current flows from the flasher module'* output to the turn signal switch assembly. The flasher module then sends an on-off voltage signal to either the left or the right turn signals and their instrument cluster (IPC) indicator. When you press the hazard switch, all the turn signal lamps and both of the IPC turn signal indicators will flash. The hazard and turn signal lamp flasher assembly is grounded at G201. The front turn signals are grounded at G101 and the rear turn signals are grounded at G302.

Turn Signal On
The Radio activates the turn signal on audible warning as requested by the body control module (BCM). The BCM sends a class 2 message to the radio indicating the chime frequency ( fast rate) and duration (2 seconds).

Just for ha-ha'* when the directional doesn't work, try your flashers, shut off, and try you directionals again.....

I was just reporting back that the turn signal stopped working and I pressed the hazard flasher and the turn signal started to work again. there also is something in the dash that makes a clip-clop noise just like the old style can type turn signals . what makes that noise ? could that cause the issue. so you are saying its the hazard flaher.
