Lumina stalls restarts after sitting
Hello,
My daughter'* 91 Lumina will run and drive fine. After about 5 or 10 miles it dies but will restart after a few minutes. I have checked the fuel pressure and it is within spec. I would like some direction before I start replacing parts. It has the 3100 engine with about 140,000 miles. It appears that the fuel pump has been replaced because I found a homemade panel in the trunk over the fuel pump. Apparently they did not want to lower the tank and just cut into the trunk floor to gain access.
Thanks

sounds like either crank sensor or icm. you can test the icm by heating it up with a heat gun and see if the engine stalls. the ckp is cheap but very difficult to replace, i did it on my old 90 GP (should be same) you cant see it you have to stick your arm up between the trans and firewall, single bolt then wrestle it out.

Thanks jw. I am going to replace the CPS. You said it was difficult to do on your GP, but it looks darn near impossible to on the Lumina without yanking the engine. If anyone has replaced on on a Lumina, I would appreciate some tips.

should be the same as they were both w-body 3.1'*. you just have to feel for it, and after the bolt is out give it a good yank because the oring likes to be stuck. you arent looking at it from the top are you?
