Default Doors not closing very well - Anything to do ?

Hi,

The doors do not close very well on my 2004 Monte SS.

My car only has 60,000 miles. The doors have no vertical movement so I don't think the hinges are worn out.

I was told there is no adjustment on these doors.

What do you think ? Anybody has this problem ?

Thanks

Something is not aligned or tight. Were these doors pried open at some point?
Can you take a photo of the inside striker/ latch mecahnism?

Thank you for your reply.

I bought the car used at 50,000 miles and it was in mint condition.

I am not aware of anything happening to the doors.

I'm not sure what the inside striker is but here are more pictures.

It doesn't look like the striker moved.

When the door is in its full closed position, push directly on the door handle area as if you are trying to close the door more while watching the travel of the door. Does it move any more while pushing on it?

Mike,

Yes they will move in about 1/8 inch but I can feel resistance and they will spring out when I let go.

Compare the claws of both doors when they are open.

Hi,

I am happy to report that the problem is resolved.

Contrary to what I had been told (don't remember who had told me that...) there is adjustment on these doors.

Lifting the doors slightly and loosening the hinges bolts made the doors aligh vertically. Then loosening and moving the latches about 1/16 inwards made the doors close tighter.

When I loosen the hinges bolts, I found that they were not very tight at all ! Not loose but you know, not a big effort was required for the bolts to begin turning. Probably the initial cause of the problem.

Thank you very much guys, your help is greatly appreciated

Thanks for the update. They look great now.
I have done this once before on another sedan, and It can be finicky trying to get the bolts tight with a decent alignment. Good job.
