95 Chevy Cavalier brakes

95 Chevy Cavalier brakes
Were the front brake pads originally asbestos.
Had a 95 cavalier and my wife had a 96, which I did numerous brake jobs on over the years. Never with a mask or any protection. Thought asbestos was long gone. Then ran into a bunch of references on line saying that cavaliers of that era had asbestos brakes.
For example, from a 2002 article: "After the ban was lifted, asbestos brakes returned. Most of the original brakes on new cars and trucks these days are made with synthetic materials or nonasbestos materials. One notable exception: General Motors Corp. uses asbestos brakes supplied by Delphi Corp. on the Chevrolet Cavalier and Pontiac Sunfire small cars. GM is in the process of phasing the asbestos brakes out. "
So, trying to figure out if that was the case on the front brakes that I'd often do work on (versus the back drums that I understood often had asbestos)
So far as I can tell the gm part number was 1915270. ACDelco part 171-0864. The current part is organic, non asbestos...though don't' know if that changed recently or was originally nonasbestos...or if it was the original part and hadn't' been superseded since.
Had seen gm parts lists on the rear brakes that would note asbestos brakes and then often have another part that'd say exc asbestos brakes. Didn't say either way on the front.
Also saw this on the Amazon website for the ACDelco 22690647 front parking brake cable:
Chevrolet Cavalier 1995 Front
Chevrolet Cavalier 1996 Front
Chevrolet Cavalier 1997 Front EXCEPT NON-ASBESTOS BRK LNG(V3C)
Chevrolet Cavalier 1998 Front EXCEPT NON-ASBESTOS BRK LNG(V3C)
Didn't know if there was anyone out there who'd worked on these cars or would be able to give insight on exactly what was asbestos in these cavalier cars.
thanks.
