Hey, y'all, just wanted to let you know my wife & I went to a Chevy dealer yesterday just for kicks & giggles, and, saw the new Volt. Let me tell you, it is a remarkable car. I was skeptical at 1st, but, upon further review, I think it'll be a good seller for GM. Here are a couple pics of it:

The problem is, it'* over priced, and still not making money on it. As a main car, it will not work because you can't pull in and fill it up and keep driving. As a second car around town, ya, but then the cost comes in to play. Figure out the cost, and then figure out what is saved on gas, and you may not like the numbers.

I'm fairly sure it does have a small gasoline motor. I know that don't mean it would work as an everyday car, but it makes it a little more "usable."

I was under the impression this was a all electric car.

Just found this commercial that actually explains it pretty well.

It does have a gas engine that can be used on longer trips

it has a 85ci i4 in it that can be used if your battery dies or you want to go farther
it will go 350 miles on gas and 35 miles on electric

That does help, but what kind of mileage on gas, and how much is saved? I figure under $2500 a year in gas for me. It would take a long time to recoop the investment.

I couldn't find any specific mileage, but I really doubt its worth it to someone who does a lot of traveling. I know I would much rather have a normal gasoline vehicle that has plenty of passing power, and wouldn't cost a lot to maintain, than to have something like that as a main vehicle. Don't get me wrong, I do like the idea of the Volt, I just don't think it can meet the standards that many people need it for..

Jake, I have to correct you, sir.... According to the Chevrolet website, the total range for the Volt is 407 miles. 325.5 miles in city driving, 372 miles in highway driving.

you cant really compare gas range or mileage, if you work less than half the all electric range, i saw on a chevy ad they figure like 70% of us do, then charge it every night, you will never put any gas into it. so the gas range depends on how far you drive, the first portion is all electric then after you use up the battery the generator fires and gives you more range, its going to be more efficient than a regular engine because its made to be one rpm range efficient. but who knows how much
