Default 02 Cavalier - No Start

The car just quit on me yesterday. Started up, then conked out. Hasn't started since.

Turns over just fine. I don't hear the fuel pump priming, so I'm guessing that'* the problem.

But I want to make sure I'm not missing something before I drop the tank and spend $230 on a pump.

I swapped a relay. No change.

Checked all fuses. All OK.

Checked the voltage going to the harness hub on the underside behind the tank. I'm getting low voltage readings on the pins (between 1 and 2 volts), and I don't know if this is normal.

Am I missing anything before the tank comes down?

Does the car have fuel?

Sorry, always have to ask the simplest questions first.

Also, get a hold of a fuel pressure test kit. If no fuel pressure, you have your problem. If you're gonna spend the money on a pump, might as well get a new filter too.

Yeah...a little under half a tank. Not looking forward to dropping a 35 lb tank.

Come back an complain when you drop a completely full 26 gallon tank out of a truck.

Do the fuel pressure test.

I'm about 99% sure it'* the pump. I had someone cycle the key for me while I laid underneath. Not so much as a click coming from the tank. Normally, I can hear the thing whir sitting in the driver seat.

Yeah, I'll probly get the filter, too.

diagram says gray is +12 and ground is black, should be getting more than a couple volts. possibly bad ground i would follow it back and clean.

Sometimes having someone hit the tank with a hammer while you crank will cause it to kick and fire enough to make your diagnosis complete. Not ALL the time though. Pink is the power wire and black is the ground.

I checked the voltage on the wires running under the back seat. Pink was getting 12v. There are two gray wires of slightly different gauge. The smaller gauge was getting only 5v and the larger none.

Not sure if this is an issue. I don't have a Haynes or Chilton'* for the car to confirm.

Either way, the tank is coming down tonight...
