Default Exhaust for my Caddy

I have a '90 Cadillac Brougham with the 350 tpi Chevy engine. I want to upgrade the exhaust. I am not going drag racing, I just want a little more passing power. The y pipe looks more like a "t" pipe.

I was wondering if anyone knew if the Walker 40315 y pipe for a '92 Caprice would bolt right up. It does have the 2 bolt flanges like mine and it appears to have the same general shape. I want to use it because it sports a better looking merge and a 3" collector in favor of my 2 1/4"...

I'm open for suggestions if anyone has any better ideas. Thanks!

I'm betting it will fit, I believe the fleetwood and the caprice share the same frame. I would just ask about the return policy before you order it.

I guess custom exhaust is out of the question??

Opening up the exhaust from the manifolds down does increase some power, but to truly benefit from the upgraded exhaust is to get rid of those restrictive manifolds and put headers in. Even simple cheap no name headers will do far more than the stock cast manifolds.

I could make a custom exhaust... I did that on my truck. It was a huge hassle for me. I am doing most, or all of my work in my driveway. I would really like a simple solution here.

I think I will try the Caprice y pipe.

As for the rest of the system... It needs replaced. I cannot find a system for this car anywhere. Does anyone know if a complete system for a Caprice or some other car would bolt right up under this car?

Ultimately, I want the Caprice y pipe and a full 3" exhaust system behind it, and I want it as simply as possible. I am not sure of the best way to achieve this.

Oh and I really don't want to deal with headers... not on this car. It'* not worth the hassle to me.

if you have the skill to make an exhaust, seems like if you order the caprice stuff and its too long or too short it would be easier to mod it to work than starting from scratch.

Good call jwfirebird. Worst case, I can modify the Caprice y pipe to work on my car, but after further research, I am pretty convinced it will bolt right up. Fingers crossed.

After the 3" y collector, I plan to omit the cat in favor of a 3" - 2 1/2" reducer, then to a 2 1/2" intermediate pipe.

After that, either the quiet as a mouse stock muffler, or something cooler sounding. I cannot decide if I want it stealthy and classy, or a little edgy and muscly. I think loud Caddys are cool, but it'* kind of blasphemy at the same time...

i had a tbi 350 in my 89 pickup, i took the cat off and ran 3in y pipe, 3in intermediate to a single into dual summit-racing turbo type muffler with dual 2.5'* out. it sounded pretty good just a little louder than stock at idle but when you get on it it was pretty loud. it was quiet enough at cruise speeds you couldnt hear it either. i think as long as you dont put headers and dont go crazy like cherry bombs they sound mildly aggressive.

I like the Summit Street-Strip mufflers (Flowmaster knock-off). I have them on my GTO and I love how it sounds but it is a little loud. I suppose headers, dual pipes, a bigger engine, and a mild cam contribute to the noise on that car tho...

Only thing remaining is the tailpipe. The only tailpipes I can find for Caprice'*, which I assume would work on my Caddy, are 2 1/4". I want a 2 1/2 tailpipe for this thing. Does anyone know how I could get one?

Just to update... I ordered all the parts and I'm working on assembling everything. It'* going to be great! The new y pipe looks like a perfect fit.

The new y pipe features 2 1/4" downpipes versus my 2" ones, a 3" collector versus my 2 1/4 collector, and a nice gradual "Y" pipe versus the old "T" pipe.

In place of the cat is straight 3" pipe, then a reducer brings it to a 2 1/2" mandrel bent intermediate pipe.

The 2 1/2" mandrel intermediate, and the higher flow y pipe are for a '92 Caprice.
