Default Cadillac CTS - Fuel Pump

Hi GM Forum users: Is this the best place for Cadillac troubleshooting and fix up general knowledge base? Perhaps there is a better site.

Any quick help on how to check if my fuel pump is pumping? 3.6L almost want to start but only for a second. Pulled the fuel line right next to the pressure pressure port and no gas come out when starting of moving the ignition to on.

Right now, the best troubleshooting tool to get is a fuel pressure tester. It connects to the port on the fuel rail. Usually you can get these at Autozone tool rental program.

What year and how many miles are currently on your Caddy?

Thanks Mike, I'll use the pressure gauge. Do you know the PSI target pressure for the CTS? Thanks, Mike

Should be in the neighborhood of 55-60psi.
If it doesn't start, have someone crank the engine and hit the bottom of the fuel tank with a hammer and see if it tries a little harder to start or starts up.

A rubber mallet might be a little better tool than a hammer.

Thanks for the tip. Always liked the BFH method. I have a list of things to try now. I'll start with the electrical, move to pressure gauge and beat the heck out of it before I drop the tank which doesn't look like fun.
Regards

Yes when I said hammer I meant a rubber mallet or a dead blow hammer. Wouldn't want you to smash a hole in your tank.

Well, the relay engages, no pressure at the Schrader valve, beat the gas tank several times, on/off many cycles. Shot Fuel Pump. Too bad, need to drop the tank. Lots of labor. Hope I can find a pump for under $500.

Thanks, Folks.

No Pumping pump. Great. Just dropped the Exhaust System. Drive Shaft. But those really TRICKY two bolts to remove the gas tank straps. There has got to be a special wrench or from the rear bumper..? Does anyone have that experience with the CTS? It would really help. Thanks
