Default 2010 SRX Remote Programming

Several weeks ago I lost one of the 'smart remotes' for my 2010 SRX--took key ring from my pocket and the key was there but the remote portion was gone! I guess it just came lose and I dropped it somewhere. In any event it was gone and that'* a different story.

I eventually got another proper remote (used) that is the correct frequency. I tried programming it using the instructions in the manual, but the vehicle would never recognize the remote. I now suspect this only has a chance of working if the remote is new and has never been programmed.

Took the car with the good remote and the non-matching (used) remote to the dealer and asked them to program it. They coudn't do it. When I spoke with the tech who actually did the work, he said the programming reaches a point where he is advised to not proceed if the 'used' remote contains a program.

I've also been told that both remotes can be purged and newly programmed.

So, is there a way to get the remote programmed or should I just buy a new one and begin again?

Programming the SRX Keyless Remote

1 Turn off your SRX'* engine and remove the key. Step out of the vehicle and close the door.

2 Insert the key into the door keyhole on the driver'* side. Turn it to "Unlock" five times quickly. This must be done within 10 seconds. Remove the key and open the door.

3 View the screen beneath the speedometer. It will display "Remote Learn Pending, Please Wait." Sit in the vehicle and wait for the display to change to "Press Engine Start Button to Learn." This takes approximately 10 minutes4 Push the "Start" button once. The display will change to "Remote Learn Pending." Push "Start" twice more. The display will now change to "Ready for Remote."

5 Open the center console and lift out the storage tray. Beneath you'll see the remote pocket. Insert the remote you wish to program into the remote pocket. Push the "Start" button once. The remote is now programmed.

Programming an Extra SRX Keyless Remote

6 Turn off the SRX'* engine. Open the center console and lift out the storage tray. Insert your currently working remote into the remote pocket inside.

7 Step outside of the vehicle. Insert your key into the door lock hole five times within 10 seconds. Step back inside the vehicle. The odometer display will show "Ready to Learn Remote Key.

8 Remove the currently working remote from the remote pocket. Insert the remote you want to program into the pocket. Push the "Start" button to program the remote to the Cadillac SRX.

Thanks, but I've seen this sequence posted and it does not work for my car. Perhaps it works with an older SRX, one that actually has a removable center tray, etc.

The sequence I posted was specifically for a 2010. I will look some more and see if there are different proceedures that might apply. In the meantime, I would take your "new" remote to a different dealer and see he says about programming it. I have never heard of not being able to overwrite a previous settting.

Thanks, 2kg4u

Busy today, but I'll get a second opinion.
