unfortunately guessing is all most dealer mechanics do because most of the time people just pay, so they make more money for being wrong than right. it unfortunate that you would be soured on gm all together because of bad service but sometimes thats what it boils down to if you cant get it fixed then no sense buying one. but its like i was saying you can find a trans specialist that really knows what they are doing and likely have better luck.

Sounds to me like they are just replacing parts and hoping it is going to cure the problem.

You need to hold them accountable for what they have done. You also need to ask them HOW they did their diagnosis. Tell them that you want to speak w/the Service Manager and if that doesn't work, you are calling GM!

They need to PROVE to you that you needed a module!! Tell them to put the old module back in and take the vehicle to a person who is competence to diagnose it. Is this a 4 or a 6 speed transmission??

Thanks Dan, maybe he'll swing by this thread sometime soon
If not I’ll shot him a PM.
I would have looked into this deeper, but I actually thought it was under warranty before I towed it 500km away, if I knew the car was not under warranty, I would have never thought of going in the dealer.

Yeah tell me about it, as I told Dan, if I did know my car wasn’t under warranty, I could have got it done way sooner and maybe cheaper.
I called OnStar they arranged the pick up and they told me it’* under warranty, so did the dealer. 2 days later they call me saying it’* not since the car was purchased in Jan 2006. I had no option but to leave it there since it was towed in and I wasn’t in the area to look for another shop.

I'm just not having luck with any of them. almost every GM car I owned gave me nothing but trouble and headache (mostly newer cars and many of them under warranty) I understand things go wrong in a car and so on but with the service I've been getting and the amount of money I paid even when I was covered under warranty is just unacceptable. They always make up the lamest most stupid excused to get away with covering a car under warranty, sadly if you don’t agree you don’t get your car back.

I can see the same problem, but what else can i do?

Like i mentioned before, i didnt get the chance to talk to him i was dealing with one of customers at work so i ended the call as quickly as possible. I know for sure i asked him for everything they have done and to fax me all the paper work they have (they usually have listed in detailed every step the mechanic took). All i got was that piece of paper attached in my previous post. I will talk to him tomorrow, I will also talk to his manager, and Cadillac in the States will be hearing from me very soon.

I will be asking them to prove how they diagnose that the TCM is faulty. I'm just really pissed off right now and wondering what i should do next. 6 Speed tranny

The 6 speed trans is new to me. We have not had one come in...yet. The computer is located in the trans on the valve body.

GM has a procedure for these when doing warranty work. Under certain conditions, you are supposed to "clean the solenoids" using a special tool, before you do anything else. I don't know if this procedure applies to your symptom. You did have a solenoid code stored (PO756), but I am not sure of it'* correct definition.

if you google PIP4184B it'll post all the info about it. He said they have a procedure to follow and said i'll send you the PIP with it

This is what he faxed along with the codes

#PIP4184B: MIL And Any Combinationof DTC P0756 P0776 P0796 P2714 P2723 - keywords intermittent ses - (Dec 20, 2007)

2008 Hummer H2
Equipped With 6L50, 6L80 or 6L90 (RPOs MYB, MYC, MYD) Automatic Transmission

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This PI Supersedes To Add Models. Please Discard PIP4184A.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(*) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:
Some customers may comment on a transmission concern where the MIL is illuminated and any of the above listed DTCs may be found in the TCM as active or history codes.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Perform the following service procedures:
  1. Record Freeze Frame / Failure Data for all DTCs. This can be done electronically with the Tech 2 by capturing the data or by manually writing down the parameters. This data may be requested by TAC if further assistance is needed.
  2. Check and note the transmission fluid level and condition. If the level is high or low it should be corrected and the vehicle road tested to verify that the condition is still present.
  3. Remove the transmission bottom pan to inspect for possible debris. If debris is found the transmission should be disassembled to determine the source. Repair or replace the transmission in the most economical method following guidelines in the latest version of bulletin 02-07-30-029.
  4. If no debris is noted in the oil pan remove the valve body / control solenoid and module assembly. Disassemble the valve body to: Inspect the check balls for roundness ensuring that there are no flat spots. Inspect the spacer plate for debris, burrs or flashing on the orifices. Measure all the valve body bore plug (328 ) diameters. Specification = 11.502 mm +/- 0.004 mm. Undersize bore plugs should be replaced. Inspect all valves for freedom of movement and correct travel.
  5. Based on the specific DTC carefully inspect the following valves for freedom of movement and correct travel.
P0756 - Clutch select valve 3 (352) (closer to the manual valve) in the lower valve body (307).

P0776 - 3-5-R clutch regulator valve (336) in the upper valve body (321).

P0796 - CBR1/4-5-6 clutch regulator valve (327) in the upper valve body (321).

P2714 - 2-6 clutch regulator valve (334) in the upper valve body (321).

P2723 - 1-2-3-4 clutch regulator valve (337) in the upper valve body (321).`

    • If a concern is found in the respective valve line-up remove the valve from the valve body.
    • Once valve is removed inspect for any scratching or scoring.
    • If any is found then the fingernail test will need to be performed.
    • Using your fingernail to move over scratches to see if nail will try to catch on the scratch or score.
    • If so then valve body will need to be replaced.
    • It has been found that in most cases that the scratches are not severe enough to catch your fingernail.
    • In this case the valve should be cleaned with some type of contact or brake cleaner.
    • The bore should also be cleaned. Clean with machined side down so debris may escape.
    • Blow off with shop air.
    • To verify free movement of the valve, dip into clean ATF and install valve back into the bore, the valve should move freely. If the valve moves freely, in most cases the valve body will function properly when reinstalled.
    • Reassemble and retest.
  6. If no issues are noted in the valve body inspection replace the control solenoid and module assembly (314). If the concern was a DTC P2723 the input / output speed sensor assembly (303) should also be replaced.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.

So i just called in, he said that replacing the module did fix part of the problem and now the transmission is shifting but only on high RPM? I know when i had it most of the time it was stuck in second gear. but if you turn the car on and off few times it'll work no problem.
So they are going to tear it apart and he said they will be looking for an internal flare which is causing the transmission to shift at high RPM

none of this make any sense to me, i dont even know what the heck is an "internal flare"

I just called right now and gave him heck; he said he will get his manager to give me a call back. I told him I would like to go ahead with a new transmission, he said but you still have to pay the $2000.00 worth of work we did on your old transmission plus the $4700.00 for a new one. I told him to go F… Fly a kite and I’ll be waiting for his manager to call me.

I understand that they are doing their job and I really appreciate it, but this is just not acceptable. There are way too many mistakes by GM/Dealer that I am NOT willing to pay for

I'll start with OnStar. As far as I know, when they connect to your car they DO know your VIN and every detail about the car. So when they look at their screen and tell me my car was still under warranty, I would expect it to be under warranty not just a mistake that cost me 800 bucks in towing, 60 dollars a day in rental, and $110.00 a day for hotel in Edmonton since Sunday (Dealer said the car will be done Monday morning)

The car gets there, and it’* NOT under warranty. I should have been told that prior to towing. Regardless, I didn’t make a big deal out of it. The warranty is over, means its over so suck it up princess correct? Which I did

Dealer diagnoses the car, and they said the problem is the TCM, we will replace it and Monday morning it’* good to go. So I send my brother to Edmonton Sunday night. Monday morning, "Oh sir your problem is 0.01% fixed. Now we have to look for the remaining 99.99% of the problem. That 0.01% will only cost you $1800.00 and the actual problem is something internal which we're not sure about and it will cost $1500.00 to dig into and we are *guessing* that is the problem".

After so many back and forth, I told him loud and clear, if you guys did diagnose the problem originally and found what was wrong with it (according to them TCM & internal flare) and explain all the damage prior to replacing the TCM module. I would have gone with a new transmission. Not one idiot would pay 3500+ to repair, not rebuild but REPAIR a transmission when a brand new one with 3 years 60k warranty is 4700 INSTALLED.
