2006 STS Cam sensor problem - pcode 0008 & 0017
I have a 06 STS with about 85K on it. My check engine light slowly but surely got to the point where it stayed on. I checked for the p codes and got p0008 (engine position system performance bank 1) and p0017 ( CKP/CMP timing misalignment). Ive called around and was told that the crank sensor is about $50 and that the 4 cam sensors are about $45 each and that is shouldnt take no more than 2 hours to fix. Does this sound about right? Do all four cam sensors have to be replaced? IS this more of a major issue than my p codes indicate?

Each sensor can be tested and then replace the one that is bad. That'* up to the shop. But testing time may cost more then simply replacing it. So your talking around $250 in parts, and labor, depending on the shop will be $75 to $125 a hour. Might get lucky and get a lower rate. You could ask them to replace the crank sensor and see if the corrects the problem, it just might.
