Default 4t65e Nightmare!

OK here is my story of woes, My parents own a 02 Lesabre with 80k. They live 400 miles and the next state over. Back in March they came down to visit and spend time with their grandchildren. On the way down they lost OD and it started making a buzzing noise. I was a GM line tech from the late 90'* through 05, so I know their car well. I knew right away that the 4th gear hub clutch stripped the splines. My parents are on a fixed income and don't have much money so rather than spend 1300 on a SERTA trans or about the same to have a local shop reman it I called the local GM dismantlers and they had a used unit with around the same milage for 250.00. Wiz Bang! I made a engine support tool and bought a 140.oo Harbor Freight tranny jack and changed it in my drive way. Mom and day were on their way. Fast forward to late July and dad called me and says the tranny slips real bad and bangs into gear when the car is cold but clears up after the car warms up. GREAT! I thought I got away with murder but NOOO! So I called the wrecking yard and they said it had a 6mo warranty and they would give me another trans but didn't play labor. So my parents came down a couple of weeks ago and dropped off the car and I sent them home in my truck. Yesterday I finally finished changing the trans again and right off the batt this trans didn't work. It shudders and won't apply first gear and finally bangs bad into gear, but it doesn't clear up after the trans warms up and it has flared shifts. I'm sure it has a PCS problem. So here I sit pondering what to do next. I know if I pull the trans out again I want to make darn sure it'* right before I install it. I'm about to the point of asking the wrecking yard for my money back and put it towards a OH kit and updated hard parts. But alas I'm working out of my home and I don't have access to the cool tranny tools like I did at the dealer. I stopped off at the local tranny shop and asked how much he would charge to "bench" it and he said about 850.00 labor and 370.00 in parts. I said why would I do that if I could get a SERTA at the dealer for 1300.00 with a 5yr warranty. Then he said well I could probably come down to 700.00 labor and I said I would still prefer to do it myself for that much and just as I was walking out the door he said he would do it for 500.00 labor but that was the lowest brother-in-law deal he could make. So here I sit pondering my next move. I called the wrecking yard and of coarse the manager isn't in and I left him a message, what are the chances he calls me right back! And the nightmare continues................

I wondering if you even got the right trans the second time. 4T60-e'* are easily confused with the sister counterparts. To the untrained eye, a tranny is a tranny. I'm wondering if the junkyard didn't even know which trans they gave you. Let alone didn't care. Can you get an eye ball on the data plate for the trans? I might be able to do some digging in my ATSG manual.

No I'm sure it'* the proper trans with the proper 3.05 gear ratio looking at the date and build codes. This yard is very good in that aspect. It'* now owned by a huge corp LKQ dismantlers

Are you able to scan for any possible codes? Some trans codes won't light up a CEL.

Yes I own a Tech II and it hasn't popped any codes yet, Looking at the PCS feed back it looks like the PCS high and low side are giving me pretty low amp readings but since I dont have access to the GM service web sight any more I couldn't tell you what normal spec should be.

ive always found jy transmissions to be a waste of money. they are on a junk car to begin with and sitting there doesnt do them good either. you are always money ahead on a auto to have it rebuilt. i have never paid more than 1k to have it done but sometimes ive taken it in and swapped. i had the one in my bonnie done for 950, them doing everything. dealer wanted like 3k

Well got a hold of the wrecking yard and told them I want my money back and the salesman said he needed to get with the warranty dept and see what they say. So I'm hurrying up to wait. I do know if I do decide to put a third used tranny in I'm going to install new pcs and shift solonoids. That being said I need to call the dealer and see if they have a set in stock.

Pulled the tranny out for the third time today, hate to admit it but I'm getting good at it! Tomorrow I go the the salvage yard and give them their junk back, only took 2 weeks to finally talk to the manager who oked giving me a refund. Second stop is the tranny shop, friend of a friend deal he is going to rebuild it for 450.00 and give me his price on parts. Moral of the story is that I've learned my lesson about buying used transmissions, won't do that again unless I'm planning on going through it.

On a side not I tried uploading some pics of the removal and for some reason I can't get them to upload to the site from my iPhone. Oh well!
