Default 2003 buck LeSabreee Dexcool question.

Hi I am in recent need of a new can and have come across a 2003 buck LeSabre Limited for around $4,000 with 101,000 miles. The question I have is that by this model year did GM finally fix the dexcool problem with coolant leaks and what not? And if not is there anything else i should be on the look out for while looking at the vehicle that would be a sign of failure in the near future? Any help would be great. thanks.

Not sure

Heres my look over for a car:
look for any coolant in the oil, it will either be a clearish liquid or the oil will look white, that usually means bad head gaskets, bad LIM gaskets, or a warped UIM

Check the entire body for any major rust, I know what salt does to cars here in the north

Check the tranny fluid for a really dark color or a burnt smell

Start it up and listen closely at idle for any roughness, squeaking, or pinging

Give the throttle cables a few tugs and make sure it doesn't die on acceleration

I like to take it for a good rough drive to make sure everything is in order

Technically Dexcool isn't a problem. If air gets in the system, dex will sludge. That'* due to the air leak though. And if neglected and not maintained dex will turn acidic.

Things to consider, the LIM gaskets, if they are black, you will want to put them on the list of ToDo'* and swap with the new aluminum GM version of the gasket.

Other than that, check the normals like all the fluids etc and enjoy the car.
