Question TPMS wheel swap but no problem. Huh?

Hi, I have a new-to-me 2007 Buick Allure CXL (Lacrosse in the US). Winter is coming here in Canada and I have a set of 225/60/16" winter tires mounted on 16" rims from my previous car. No TPMS sensor on these tires. I've read the only thing that should go wrong is an error message from the TPMS system. I figured for the cost savings I can put up with it.

So I tried swapping one winter for the currently TPMS-functioning 17" 225/55/17" tire already on the car. I got a bit of surprise when I drove around like this. No error whatsoever! It kept functioning as though nothing had changed. The pressure readings from the wheel kept updating even!

Any idea why this would happen? What is the range of the radio receiver as I didn't drive more than 2 km away from summer wheel?

Call me confused.

im sure it wouldnt have that kind of range and it may take some amount of time with no signal received to cause an error code

I thought it would be immediate. I was out for about 15 minutes.

it had it when you started and when you shut it off, try putting the one with the sensor out in the yard away from the car before you start it

I hadn't thought of that, yes the one with the sensor was pretty close to where I park. If that'* the case and it takes 15 min to update, the error will probably be intermittent and in the middle of my trips since I stack my summers right next to where I park.

Thanks for the advice, that would have been very confusing and annoying otherwise!
