Default Problems with the L36 LeSabre...

It'* a '98 Limited with about 58,000 miles...

Alright, according to the old man, the battery gauge is sitting way too high. It'* in the red just below the 18. I do not recall it doing like that before. He also tells me that it seems like it'* running a little hotter than usual lately. I have yet to check it out for myself but I thought I'd check on here to see what i could learn... Hell, I'll even start a poll to see who gets it right!!! Seriously, any thoughts would be appreciated!!!

I'd first start with the battery. If it'* the original, it might be time to replace it. Next I'd look at the Alternator. The OE Alternator'* don't seem to last as long as one might expect them too. Also, if it does turn out to be the Alternator, and you replace it with a rebuilt unit, you should replace the battery at this time as well. There is also a very slight chance that it could be the computer. The only reason I bring this up is becuase I once had an '89 LeSabre. When the MIL light went on, I had my friend plug his Diagnostic Scanner into the ALDL(?) port and the read out for the alternator was 19 Volts. We replaced the computer and the voltage readout was back to normal. But my best guess for your problem would be the alternator itself.

Verify the voltage with a voltmeter while the car is running. If it'* really that high, replace the battery and alternator. And get an alternator with a warranty.

my 97 limited has the same problem...needle sits just a hair below the red on the high side...it should sit at 13 right?

im going to get a new battery tomorrow (the delco batteries SUCK!) ill see what that does and test the alt. thank you for your help.

14.5 to 15 is where mine sits...i guess i'm o.k. no ses light...ever...
